birthday week: a day with elliott.
Yesterday was Elliott's official birthday, so Taylor and I both took a vacation day from work to spend the day with our newly-crowned two year old. After a poorly-timed check up at the pediatrician's office (complete with a vaccine he was behind on... I'm a bad mom!) first thing in the morning, we dropped little sis off at their babysitter's house and set off for the day, just the three of us!
We had been talking for a few days about what we would do that day, seeing as funds have been tight and it just didn't make much sense to make a huge day trip somewhere when two-year-olds still need a nap in the middle of the day. By that time, we were all a little hungry so we stopped at McDonald's for a little iced coffee and to treat Elliott to his first Happy Meal! We are not typically a fast food-eating family but we figured a boy's birthday was as good a day as any. He chowed the entire thing down and squealed with each bite! A trip to the toy store followed, to use up some birthday party gift cards. We had a blast! Elliott ran up and down the aisles kicking balls, petting stuffed toys, and knocking down displays. He picked out a couple of simple toys & that was that. After that Elliott had his first Vanilla frappucino from Starbucks, and ogled at the fish tanks at the pet store. He tried to kiss every single fish through the glass, that silly kid.
At the end of the day, our little guy was officially two, and I could think of no better way to mark the occasion. Some simple fun, a few firsts, and more hugs & kisses than a two year old could count.
