our story

The grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.

-Allan K. Chalmers

I can't believe how we've gotten to this point, and I am so glad we did.  I started this blog in 2011, having just purchased my current home and celebrated my two year wedding anniversary with my husband. I was still childless, and for want of many things, searching for happiness in the form of things I had yet to acquire or accomplish; a baby, a home furnished with the latest trends, more free time, and a more "ideal" career.

Three kids later, my free time is dwindling, we are still updating our house, and I am working the exact same job. I have had to sacrifice my time & energy and my clothes no longer fit. More than ever, though, I am learning that happiness is a rather simple concept, and I have already found it. Working a job that provides our necessities by day and making a home in the off hours, with a family that I love more than I ever could have dreamed; carving our story into the framework of our everydays and hoping for our voices to be heard.

Now, the purpose of this blog is rather simple: a live journal of our family's story, finding the beauty in our very, very busy. I've enjoyed looking back at prior posts and want to keep this going, for my kids, my family, and for me to cherish, always and always.

We are:

Charlotte (me): A thirty-something writer who works at a software company by day. Erring on the side of introverted, I enjoy painting, writing, embroidery, and sewing when I have the time. More recently, I have aspired to homemaking, which is pretty darn tough when you work 40 hours a week. Nonetheless, I have learned to mop floors and meal plan with a cheerful attitude because really, nothing speaks more to me than a clean and well-loved home.

Taylor (the papa bear): The pillar of our home, bearded & brilliant. He cusses a bit much but is rather a silly old papa bear, the kind who will wrestle his kids on the floor and make up ridiculous songs. In his professional life he is the Director of Sales for a small guitar company; in his free time an accomplished songwriter and musician. He is currently working on an 80's inspired synthpop album that is sure to blow any Korg aficionado or music lover away.

Elliott Wilde (practically five): The boy behind the namesake of this blog, my little heart warrior. At two months old Elliott was diagnosed with a rare Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), Truncus Arteriosis. After having open heart surgery at three months old and countless procedures to date, Elliott thrived & grew in spite of the odds and his complex diagnosis. Elliott's health and themes of CHD awareness are a common thread on this blog, as our lives are intertwined with doctor visits and tests. These days, though, Elliott is doing well and wants to be Darth Vader for Halloween.

Penelope Sweet (three & a half): Penelope was conceived when Elliott was five months old, right after the chaos of open heart surgery wound down. She is a fiery spirit, albeit a little bit sensitive & emotional, just like her mama. The girl has a mouth that can be heard for miles and currently is an attentive mama to seven doll babies.

Adeline Love (one & a half): Adeline is our littlest love. She slipped right into our little family as if she's always been, and made our family feel quite complete. She is such a feisty toddler who knows how to throw a good tantrum and a is bit codependent, wanting pretty much nothing but to be held, talked to, and loved. Isn't that what we all want?

I thank you for visiting, and sharing in our journey.
